Youth Training at the Blue Mountains Aboriginal Culture Centre.

An important role for our centre will be providing training programs for young people. We will be particularly targeting "at risk" youths in the Blue Mountains, Nepean and wider area.

Once established, we will offer scholarships which will enable young people to spend time in each operational area of our organisation. Some of these scholarships will be for out of area candidates and provide a living away from home allowance.

We will also be providing day and weekend workshops which will enable our staff to pass on a variety of skills.

Goomblar has had a great deal of experience working with "at risk" groups and will be the overall co-ordinator of these programs.

We will be providing training in the following areas:

Visitors Centre.

• Point of sale operations, cash handling, banking, retail computer operations,
• Window dressing, sales presentations and customer service skills.
• Understanding of functional OH&S requirements.

Performance Space.

• Staging, lighting and sound equipment operations.
• Using contemporary technical equipment with traditional acoustic performances.
• Audio and video production.
• Production development.
• Dance and music skills

Workshop and Art Centre.

• Traditional and modern crafting tools and their uses.
• Understanding of how traditional weapons and implements were made and used.
• Painting and woodworking techniques .
• Gallery presentations and lighting.
• Sales skills.
